I’ve got a beautiful and fully renovated recording studio/office space/condo for sale! It was once called “Audio Resources Honolulu” owned at the time by world renowned recording engineer, Milan Bertosa. Here’s a little of the incredible history of this iconic place that you won’t believe! This was my reaction upon learning what I was in possession of.

Holy Cannolli! I just found out that the condo I purchased, remodeled and now have up for sale was once a recording studio that was owned by a legend in the business! It was called “Audio Resource Honolulu.” After researching it even more, I also found out that many of Hawaii’s entertainers, singers, musicians and groups recorded there, including Don Ho himself, who recorded the album “With All My Love” (Me Ke Aloha Pumehana), that was arranged by David Kauahikaua and engineered by the late Milan Bertosa. In fact, it was Bertosa who owned the studio.

He opened it back in 1988, a move that put him close to Waikiki and in position to work with many of the artists like Don Ho, IZ, The Brothers Cazimero, The Ka‘au Crater Boys, Amy Hānaiali‘i Gilliom, Kalapana, Willie K, Loyal Garner, The Peter Moon Band, Anri, Ilona Irvine, Jerry Byrd, Melinda Caroll, Azure McCall, Robi Kahakalau, Forté, Pauline Wilson, Hawaiian Style Band, Cecilio & Kapono, John Cruz, Teresa Bright, Nā Leo Pilimehana, Martin Pahinui, Mānoa DNA, Genoa Keawe, The Krush, Kawehi Lindsey, Pacific Harp Project, Uluwehi Guerrero, Del Beazley, and Aunty Irmgard Farden Aluli — just to name a few! In researching it even more regarding the history of the studio, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” which was a huge hit for IZ and a song that became known worldwide was also recorded there along with “What a Wonderful World” and “White Sandy Beach.” This is what I’ve learned about the very first meeting and how it all came about between Israel Kamakawiwoʻole and Milan Bertosa.

As reported by NPR…

In 1988, recording studio engineer Milan Bertosa was wrapping up a long day at 3:30 in the morning when the phone rang. “It was a client of mine," Bertosa remembers. The client rattled off Israel's unpronounceable name and said he wanted to come in and record a demo. Bertosa said he was shutting down, call tomorrow. But the client insisted on putting Israel on the phone. "And he's this really sweet man, well-mannered, kind.” “Please, can I come in? I have an idea,” Bertosa remembers Israel saying. Bertosa relented and gave Israel 15 minutes to get there. Soon there was a knock at the door. “And in walks the largest human being I had seen in my life,” said Bertosa. “Israel was probably like 500 pounds and the first thing at hand is to find something for him to sit on. The building security found Israel a big steel chair. Then I put up some microphones, do a quick sound check, roll tape and we record the songs “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and “What a Wonderful World” just IZ and his uke, two mics, one take! It was beautiful. The other song he recorded that night was called “White Sandy Beach” and he overdubbed another uke, so that was three tracks.” The next day, Bertosa made a copy for Israel and filed the original recordings away. But he was so taken with it, that over the next few years, he played it occasionally for family and friends. It eventually caught the attention of record producer Jon de Mello and the rest is history! “It was that special," he says. "Whatever was going on that night, he was inspired. It was like we just caught the moment."

Think about it, how ironic is this? That a recording artist is selling a condo that he had no idea was once a recording studio, a studio that played an integral part in creating some of the finest music to ever come out of the islands. I don’t know whether now to sell it or to ask the City to deem it a historical site! But whatever happens, this is so fricken cool! The history behind it all is mind-boggling and I still can’t believe that this song was one of the many songs that was recorded years ago in my back bedroom!

If you’re seriously interested in purchasing this incredible place, I can be reached at show contact info . Give me a call and I’ll give you the royal tour! Keep in mind that you can also use this space for a beautiful little office or a place to call home. It has 835 square feet, it’s own parking stall, a brand new central A/C system, a little private office and a full on bathroom and kitchen! If you consider picking it up as an investment that too would be a great move! A place such as this so close to Waikiki could bring upwards of $4,400 per month if you were to rent it out! So think about it and give me a call. And just so you know, Redfin appraised this property recently for $387,467, which is a lot more than what we’re asking, but if you add the historical value to this place…it’s priceless!
