Big Brothers Big Sisters Hawaii is a preventative non-profit organization whose mission is to help children reach their full potential through professionally supported, one-to-one relationships with positive and measurable impacts. We are looking for a dynamic, civic-minded, team player to fill one full time position.

Responsibilities: Provides direct services to children via volunteers in a site specific setting such as a school, community center or other another agency. The School-Based Case Manager will develop additional sites, present the program to the community, evaluate and orient prospective parents and volunteers to the program, make assignments and supervise the site in person.

Qualifications: Bachelor Degree in the human services area (BSW preferred) with a minimum of six months work experience with elementary aged children. Some experience in curriculum planning and a solid understanding of the local school system is preferred. Applicant must be able to present and promote the program in a variety of settings and to a variety of people. Personality strengths must include flexibility, enthusiasm, creativity and organizational ability. Proficiency in Microsoft Office; including Word, Outlook, and Excel is valuable. Applicant must also have a car, valid driver's license, and meet state required automobile insurance minimum.


1. Recruits for new volunteers as needed
2. Responds to initial inquiries about the program, providing excellent customer service
3. Conducts group or individual orientation sessions.
4. Gathers required information, including interviews, background checks and references
5. Prepares written summaries and recommendations
6. Evaluates the appropriateness for services
7. Matches the volunteer with an appropriate Little and introduces them for the first time, successfully preparing them for what being matched entails
8. Professionally supports match

1. Organizes service delivery with site personnel i.e. school counselors, teachers
2. Recruits Littles for Programs as needed
3. Interviews and orients pre-selected children and their parents to the program
4. Gathers required information, including school and therapist reports as needed
5. Prepares written summaries and recommendations
6. Assesses needs of youngsters and selects appropriate volunteers
7. Initiates evaluations and makes suggestions to mentors
8. Matches the volunteer with an appropriate Little and introduces them for the first time, successfully preparing them for what being matched entails
9. Professionally supports the match

1. Maintains established sites
2. Develops new sites
3. Mans sites as necessary

1. Keeps attendance records for the school
2. Keeps written documentation on progress of relationships and safety of all parties
3. Prepares and keeps statistics on number of children served
4. Keeps and updates case records, including Match Support Contacts
5. Keeps all documentation complete and up to date in AIM (Agency Information Management) database


1. Serves as the liaison between the agency and site
2. Participates in general staff meetings and program meetings
3. Participates in program activities, fundraising activities and other agency events
4. Represents the Agency at conferences, community events, public relations and community service projects
5. Provides program or other information required by various funders or program evaluators as needed
6. Helps out with fundraisers, agency activities
7. Performs other duties as assigned

Working Conditions: Ability to lift 10 lbs. Ability to use personal computer, telephone, fax, photo copier, typewriter, postage meter, and related office equipment.

Work Hours: Full time. Position will require occasional evening and weekend hours.
