POSSIBLY ONE OF A KIND! PARTS OF THIS HAWAIIANA STATUE HAVE ADDED ORIGINAL HAND APPLIED TEXTURES, FLOWERS AND DESIGNS.
Obviously unique hand applied glaze colors with various clay and hand tool inscribed embellishments. This item was apparently mold casted (not a figurine in appearance in any way) using a light orange, clay or silica slip (Maui red dirt?), with additional hand applied color glazes and the other hand applied elements (such as the sculpted flowers in her hair and on her hip) were added then it was kiln fired. (See photo closeups, especially the view from the bottom of the statue's hollow interior).
5" wide at the widest part of the figure - Approximately 11 1/4" from bottom to the top part of the flower in the Wahine's hair
Possibly created in the 40's, or perhaps more likely the 50's or 60's, I acquired this kiln glazed Wahine figure in the early 70's from a friend who had purchased it a few years earlier, from an antique dealer.
I have yet to see another example of this particular hand crafted Wahine statue.
There are two tiny pieces of the flower at the top of the Wahine's head which chipped off at some point, although the damage is not easily seen (see photo closeups) and thus undistracting.
I can send more closeup digital photos to anyone potentially interested in purchasing the Wahine statue.
If you live on Maui, you can pick it up in person if you agree to pay with cash. I can arrange to meet you in Kihei, near South Maui or in Kahului (I live in Maui Meadows in Kihei).
If you do not live on island, I will accept personal check or USPS postal money order payments, although the payment will have to clear my bank prior to quality packed shipment via USPS Registered Priority Insured Mail delivery (quality packed for added protection in transit). I will have to calculate the shipping cost based on your location.
