I have 5 handsome young Heritage breed turkey toms available looking for a new spot. They are approximately 9 months old and just hitting their prime.
These boys are the definition of a perfect Hawaiian Thanksgiving. Whether you are looking for a premium, ethically raised meal for the holiday or a stunning addition to your flock, these toms are ready.
About the Birds:
• Raised Right: Truly free-ranged on our farm and treated with plenty of love. They are healthy, active, and happy.
• Temperament: These boys are incredibly gentle. Unlike some aggressive poultry, this heritage cross has a calm disposition. They currently all live together in a "bachelor flock" and get along perfectly, so you don't have to worry about fighting.
• Genetics: Mother is a purebred Bourbon Red; Father is a Tri-Color Mottled Slate.
• Colors Available: I have 4 Rusty Slate (first two pics) and 1 Rusty Black (last two pics) currently available. Their wings are clipped to prevent flying onto the roof right now, so their wings look a little rough, but once they molt their beautiful wing feathers will grow back in.
Why Heritage Breeds?
Unlike commercial turkeys, these heritage birds are slow-growing (which means better flavor!) and excellent foragers. They are smart, self-sufficient, and great at cleaning up pests on the land.
Why skip the "Day-Old" stage?
Raising turkeys on the Big Island is a significant investment of both time and money. Here is why choosing an established 9-month-old Tom is the smarter move for your homestead:
• Guaranteed Results: When buying day-old poults (which rarely list for less than $50 locally), you cannot definitively tell the sex or the final adult plumage. With these boys, the guesswork is gone—you know exactly the sex, temperament, and color you are getting.
• Reduced Risk: Young poults can have a mortality rate as high as 30% in those first few vulnerable weeks. These Toms have already cleared that hurdle; they are hardy, healthy and fully acclimated to the land.
• The Bottom Line: Between the $50+ initial purchase price and the estimated $150+ in feed costs required to reach breeding age, you would spend well over $200 (plus your labor) to raise a bird to this stage yourself.
By purchasing one of these boys, you are getting a bird that is ready to breed or be harvested today for less than the cost of DIY.
Breeding Potential:
If you are looking to expand your flock, these guys will be ready to breed this upcoming season (starts late Jan/early Feb). They will add beautiful color genetics and hardiness to any hens you have.
$150 each. Please contact us if you are interested in these handsome boys!
