Another Recycle-A-Bicycle quality item all cleaned up and ready to go.
This is my personal bike rack that's probably lived on my Rav4 for ~15 years and safely carried countless bikes. I no longer need it as I'm getting a new car without an exterior spare tire. Over the years, I've restored it several times with new strapping and rust-preventing paint. And I've just repainted it again just for you.
This thing is bullet-proof! It mounts VERY SOLIDLY to the spare tire with one strap that goes around the circumference of the car's tire, two straps that go from front to back and one with a metal hanger that goes up to the top of the car's rear door. The straps have been trimmed to my tire size (217/70R16) so if you've got a larger spare tire, you may need to install new straps. The rack itself allows for thicker or thinner tires and it can even be installed off-center to put the bikes centrally behind an off-centered spare but I've never done this. And as you can see in the pictures, the bikes do protrude on the passenger side of the car a bit but it's never been a problem for me. I've also added two straps which securely hold down the two bikes independently. What's nice is that it folds down for compact storage.
The newer version with rubber hold-downs sells for $200. BUT!!! They won't ship to Hawaii!!!! Another company will sell this newer model BUT will charge you $156 for shipping!!!! Look here for the new rack: https://hollywoodracks.com/collections/spare-tire-bike-racks/products/sr1-spare-tire-rack
The only price-comparable spare tire rack I can find that will ship to Hawaii is the Rhino Rack for $165. BUT!! It gets terrible reviews. This Hollywood rack is really solid - an oldie but goodie!
I'm in Ocean View (50mi south of Kona) but I will deliver (on my schedule) at no charge if you live between Ocean View and Kona. If it's still listed, I still have it. Cash only. Thanks!
