<description><![CDATA[The Field Crew Member will be implementing on-the-ground watershed conservation efforts for the Kohala Watershed Partnership. This includes, but is not limited to, weed control, constructing and maintaining fences and trails, controlling feral animals and rodents, doing biological surveys, and planting.  The Field Crew Member will work with various field crews, landowner partners, volunteers, and students. The Field Crew Member will need to be an observant naturalist, able to collect and summarize data. This requires an individual who enjoys working daily in outdoor Hawai&#699;i, is self-sufficient in harsh wilderness conditions, can work cooperatively with a variety of people, and can communicate effectively. The KWP field crew does physically demanding work that requires a committed effort and high level of motivation. <br>

Requirements:<br>

Experience in fence construction, hunting and weed control in Hawai&#699;i.<br>
Knowledge of Hawaiian culture, ecology, plants, forests, streams and birds.<br>
Possess a valid driver’s license, and able to drive standard transmission, off-road vehicles<br>
Safe use of firearms, pesticides, power tools, and helicopter-assisted operations.<br>
Eagerness and ability to learn new skills, new technology, and new information.<br>
Adaptable, cooperative, dependable, honest, quick learner and hard-working.<br>
Able to maintain a good attitude while working in bad weather under difficult conditions.<br>
Carry 50-pound pack over rough terrain.<br>

<description><![CDATA[The Field Technician will be part of the team that is implementing on-the-ground watershed restoration efforts for the KWP. The key responsibilities of the Technician include, but are not limited to, data collection and monitoring relating to stream resources, fire fuel loads, vegetation, restoration plantings, and efficacy of control measures for invasive plants and feral animals. This requires an individual who is detailed, able to work with calibrated instruments, learns quickly, enjoys working daily in outdoor Hawai&#699;i, able to organize and manipulate data in databases and spreadsheets, can work cooperatively with a variety of people, and can communicate clearly both orally and in writing. The Technician will need to be flexible and adaptable, in order to assist the field crew in restoration activities as needed. Training and/or experience with GPS/GIS is preferred. This position requires a committed effort, along with a high level of organization and motivation.<br>

The Field Technician will report to the KWP Field Operations Leader and the KWP Coordinator. The Coordinator will provide project goals and delegate responsibilities.  The Field Operations Leader will organize materials, crew, and time to meet project goals.<br>

<p>Job Requirements:<br>The ideal candidate will perform high-level environmental tasks and participate in technical field efforts. Experience and capabilities must also include: task-level management skills, field experience, familiarity with study design, multiple field sampling techniques, boat work, data collection, and statistical interpretation. Demonstrated experience in writing technical reports and proposals is a must. Local environmental knowledge and contacts helpful but not required.<br><br>You will also work with a team to develop and design projects and review and revise project documents and reports. You must be able to work with minimal oversight to undertake the research and writing of technical reports according to set timelines and deliver quality written results. You must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals as well as write routine reports and correspondence. Being able to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organizations is also needed. <br><br>Excellent research, writing and communication skills required. Qualifications:<br>
The successful candidate will possess the following combination of education and experience:<br>
•	Minimum education of an Associate's degree in Science, Technology or related discipline.  Additional preference will be given for Microelectronics manufacturing coursework.<br>
•	Must possess a minimum of (1) one year related work experience in high-volume manufacturing, with a preference for experience in semiconductor or related technologies.  This experience may be gained by internships, direct experience or coursework projects.  <br>
•	A basic working knowledge of Diffusion Furnaces, Wet Bench Etching equipment; Photolithography, Dry Etch, PECVD and other equipment related to silicon wafer processing in Semiconductor or MEM's manufacturing equipment and/or production processes is preferred.<br>
•	Prior experience with the operation of related equipment and performance of basic PM's is required.  Additional preference for some experience with minor equipment maintenance.<br>
•	Must possess excellent communication skills (written and verbal) as you will be working in a team environment that is very data-driven.   <br>
•	Basic computer skills are required including familiarity with windows-based programs such as Microsoft productivity tools (e.g., Excel, Word).  A basic working knowledge of manufacturing or ERP systems and data entry and/or collection from such systems is preferred but not required.<br>

<b>DUTIES: </b> Performs daily duties of monitoring, managing and processing of fishery data. The primary function of this position will be to coordinate fast-track data processing for certain types of fisheries data collections in support of various Federal Fishery Management Plans, e.g. Pelagic, Bottomfish, Crustacean, Coral Reef Ecosystem, and Precious Corals.  Major tasks include: contacts fishers, collects, coordinates, processes, and maintains data collection of specific fisheries from fishers and fish dealers, and creates reports.   In addition, coordinates with the DLNR-DAR staff to work on various assignments to maintain and improve current fisheries data collection programs and to provide up-to-date fish landings status reports to properly monitor targeted fisheries.

<b>PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:  EDUCATION: </b> Associate’s Degree from an accredited community college or at least 48 credits college level course work (with at least a 2.0 GPA) in related in field.   EXPERIENCE:  One to three (1-3) years of experience in the following areas: data processing and data quality assurance/quality control; data processing in a research environment.   ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS:  Working knowledge of Hawaii fishing practices and fishing methods; knowledge of Hawaii’s fish identifications (including local fish names); and fisheries monitoring applications.  Ability to work with and communicate technical fisheries information to the public, Non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and to government agencies and committees.  Proficient in Microsoft Office and database applications.  Must have driver license to drive to various boat docks and ports. Uploads laboratory data into reporting system to generate data packages for submittal to clients. Interprets and reports data for client samples by performing a broad range of analyses using independent selection and adaptation of methods and techniques. Must be experienced in method modification for special testing requests. Schedules sample workload according to due dates and sample hold times. Must be knowledgeable of a broad range of laboratory testing equipment requiring the exercise of discretion and judgment in its operation. <br>

	The primary focus as a field manager is to coordinate a safe and efficient work schedule.  In addition to working side by side with field technicians, the field manager will have an added responsibility for the wellbeing of the crew as well as maintaining a strong team work ethic.  <br>
	This particular job entails the foliar spraying of herbicide (Garlon 3A)….Some PPE will be provided (glasses and gloves).  The primary target species will be the Florida blackberry and the English Holly.  Each target species has a different active ingredient and treatment concentration.  Each morning a batch of herbicide will be mixed to a 0.5% concentration for the entirety of the work day (for blackberry).  Each crew member will be equipped with a four gallon backpack sprayer which may require refilling; up to six times per day.  The average hiking distance traveled in a day is approximately four miles.  The terrain at Hakalau is very uneven; composed of thick underbrush with decaying logs throughout the surface vegetation.  Crew members will be hiking line transects at a specific distance apart from one another for the majority of the day.  Everyone will be equipped with a walkie-talkie for ease of contact.  <br>
	Located just below Mauna Kea, Hakalau can get very cold. At night the temperature can plunge between 30-55 degrees Fahrenheit.  Throughout the day, the average temperature ranges from 60-75 degrees Fahrenheit.  The BRD (Biological Resource Discipline) cabin can house six individuals with two separate rooms.  The cabin is equipped with a stove/oven, sink, hot water, shower, electricity, refrigerator, and 6 beds (bunk bed style).  The compost toilet is located behind the cabin.  <br>
	Pono Pacific employees will start their accent to Hakalau Wildlife Refuge every Sunday afternoon.  The work week runs from Monday through Thursday (4 day work week).  The designated meeting location for departure to and from Hakalau Wildlife Refuge will be at the Hakalau Wildlife Complex located at 60 Newelo St, Hilo.<br>
