Let us make a few basic statements about our company. We operate by advance appointment only. We do this primarily because we are a small operation and dont want to make promises we cant keep. There are times slots when we are fully booked, and will then refer them to our competition, as a courtesy to our customers.

The woman who made the July 9th posting ( we assume it was her, and not someone else) did have a reservation. She called to say her flight was delayed, and would not be arriving intil 1:15 AM.

We told her we would try our best to accomodate her, that we indeed could not positively guarantee someone would be there to meet her, but she should call us when she arrived and we would inform her at that time. Change of plans like this are not uncommon, but it is short notice, and we try our best under these circumstances. We believed it should not be a problem.

We explained that at that time of night we had fewer drivers available, since by 10pm most flights have either arrived or departed. And that the drivers we have at that time were already booked by other appointments.

She became frustrated, and said she didnt understand what we were talking about. We explained this again. We asked if there was a problem with the phone connection. She said no, that she didnt understand what we were talking about. "Do you operate 24 hours a day, or not?" She then said maybe she should just use a different service. We agreed, that it would be the best if she uses another service.

We did not say she was" being irrational", or anything like it.

Angery, frustrated customers are often times unreliable customers. We understand their frustration at being delayed, but we must make a judgement on the reliability of them to honor the reservation. We tried twice to explain the situation and procedures, but we were unsuccessful. At this point, its best to "cut your losses", so to speak, and disengage from a emotional situation.

This is when the woman became truly argumentative. We said it would be best for her to use someone else. Still, she persisted. We informed her this was our final decision, said good-bye, and ended the conversation. She called back and left a message.

We were not interested in engaging in emotional confrontation. Its pointless, destructive and immature.

We find it interesting that she made the post a whole week after the day in question.

Also, since she found a ride - and a cheaper one, at that - what exactly does that say?

We are sorry we could not satisfy this customer. We are pleased she found a ride home, was happy with their service, and at a price she finds reasonable. There are many options out in the marketplace to suit almost everyones needs and pocketbook.

We wish her and Hawaii Airport Shuttle success.

I work in the Harbor Shops and Maalaea and own a car. However, my boyfriend has a job in Makawao and I plan on letting him use my car to get to work since its the heftier trek and I don't feel like driving upcountry to drop him off everyday. I might bicycle since it's only 8 miles, but I thought there might be someone out there willing to share their trip with me in exchange for splitting the gas on the way to/from Maalaea. Using the bus is not an option, since it would take longer than riding a bicycle. I'd pay you $1.50 each way. I know its not that much, but for most cars that's about 100% of the cost of the whole trip plus a little more (to help you pay upkeep, oil change, etc).

Three days a week I start at 9 and get off at 3 (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday). One day a week I start at 12:30 and get off at 6:40 (Friday) and one day I start at 9 and get off at 5:40 (Sunday). It's a weird schedule, but I'd be happy if there was anyone out there available for just one or two days. It'll save you money and me time!

If anyone wants to ride share during those hours, Im all for it. I use one of two cars I have access to and I can take me +3 in either car. I have the mileage/gas cost pretty much down so All I ask is that you split the gas with me if you need a ride. Note, this is a one way, either direction thing unless you plan on swimming or visiting Ala moana mall for a short 1 hour visit. I dont mind irregular, or regular riders, I am just offering an option. Perhaps you live in mililani and since your work starts later (not at 8am) you cannot take advantage of the speedy express busses. This is another option for you.
