The Girl Scout After School Hours Program (ASHP) Advisor is responsible for the execution of the Girl Scout program in an after school setting. A successful candidate must have an understanding of the Girl Scout leadership development program and the values and traditions of Girl Scouting to ensure the standard delivery of the ASHP in an assigned elementary school or school related setting.
This is a limited part-time position (less than nineteen (19) hours per week).
The program operates in the school setting once a week for at least one hour; employees are compensated for preparation and wrap-up time. The advisor is expected to be available at least fifteen (15) minutes prior to the end of the school day; the program begins immediately at the conclusion of the school day. Selected schools may have multiple meetings per week, depending upon the number of girl participants. Successful candidates are encouraged to work at several school locations, as available.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
1. Be energetic, trustworthy and committed to the values of Girl Scouting;
2. Be an independent and innovative thinker and problem solver, who thrives in a team environment, is willing to tackle new challenges, and is able to manage multiple assignments while meeting specifc deadlines;
3. Able to work with little to no supervision, while upholding the values of the Girl Scout Promise and Law and maintaining the integrity of the program;
4. Must have a basic understanding of child development and age appropriate behaviors and skills;
5. Be willing and able to work with children from diverse backgrounds and be culturally sensitive;
6. Have excellent verbal and written communication skills and able to communicate with parents, school staff, community members and Girl Scout staff;
7. Have two (2) years of College and/or two (2) years work experience in related fields such as education, early childhood education and/or human services;
8. Undergo a comprehensive background check.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Prepare program materials and supplies to ensure timely delivery of program activities;
2. Conduct and monitor the Girl Scout program for girls ages 5 - 11 in the school setting;
3. Provide feedback and input to support the development of the program content;
4. Facilitate communication between parents, staff and school administrators, as needed;
5. Work with program coordinator/manager to maintain optimal girl participation levels;
6. Ensure all Girl Scout safety standards and State of Hawaii Department of Education rules and regulations are followed;
7. Process paperwork on a timely basis in accordance with the Girl Scouts of Hawai'i policies and procedures;
8. Attend all Girl Scouts of Hawai'i required trainings and meetings;
9. And all other responsibilities assigned by the Pathways Development Manager, the Management Team, and/or the Chief Executive Officer.
