Kamehameha Schools has a full-time, permanent position open for Senior Tax Associate in Honolulu, HI. The successful candidate will have the knowledge and expertise to perform responsibilities in the following areas:

Tax Compliance, Reporting and Communication with Tax Authorities:
Responsible for completion of tax return information request package for annual Form 990 and 990T and any applicable state tax returns for KS and KAPF. Responsible for gathering applicable information for extensions, quarterly tax estimates and tax accrual calculations. Responsible for ensuring that all applicable tax filings and payments are made by the statutory deadlines (e.g., creating and monitoring tax due date list). Responsible for gathering necessary information and composing written responses to IRS and State Taxing Authority notices for approval.

Tax Planning and Transaction Consulting:
Responsible for preparing quantitative analyses (i.e., Excel based schedules) and for gathering data and updating annual analyses for key issues such as retention of tax exempt status and educational organization status as well as unrelated business income. Responsible for formulating and presenting preliminary conclusions based on initial analyses. Conducts research on tax matters and provides a summary of results.

Tax Database, Website and Document Retention:
Responsible for creating and maintaining various databases for tax reporting/monitoring purposes (e.g., lobbying activities, Schedule K-1 inventory, reportable transactions confirmations.) Responsible for updating tax material on internal legal website and educating organization users on contents. Responsible for creating and maintaining tax files (hard copies and electronic as appropriate) to comply with tax document retention policy.

Monitor Current Tax Developments/Communication & Training:
Monitor development in tax law and tax accounting pronouncements and bring relevant matters to the attention of the Division’s professional staff. Maintain contacts with similar organizations for knowledge sharing. Assist in developing reference materials and training sessions for KS divisions for recurring key topics, or as recurring questions or issues arise in given areas.

Help Desk to Operations:
Field routine tax questions and respond appropriately by referring users to the KS Legal Website, developing practical solutions considering cost/benefit approach, or referring questions to appropriate staff members in Division. Volume and trend of questions should be monitored and addressed with training, newly developed tools and checklists and/or revised procedures as appropriate.

Position Requirements:
• Three to five years minimum related work experience required. **Tax related experience in the public or private sectors. Experience requirement reduced to 2 years if accompanied by a Masters Degree in Accounting or Tax
• Proficient tax research skills using CCH, RIA, BNA and/or Westlaw
• Proficient computer skills in Word, Excel, Power Point, Visio, Access and Project
• Excellent verbal, written and listening skills and people skills to interface with different levels of management and staff throughout the organization and community
• Excellent organization skills required to manage multiple assignments simultaneously, prioritize changing workloads, and consistently meet deadlines
• Ability to work extended and flexible hours as necessary given time change demands/scheduling and some travel.
• Sound judgment and analytical skills with the ability to work independently with a high degree of accuracy.
• Ability to design complex Excel spreadsheets and build complex Access databases.
• Tax compliance experience, including tax return, extension and quarterly estimated tax calculations and preparation. Solid understanding of the tax compliance process, including mapping and downloading accounting reports into Excel and tax preparation software programs.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Ability to recommend and implement a sustainable system solution that balances between meeting business requirements and minimizes system complexity.
• Experience in ERP full life cycle implementations.
• Ability to develop work plans, i.e. testing, realization, cutover, to meet project deadlines.
• Familiar with Report Writing tools (Showcase, Cognos, Crystal Reports, etc.).
• Familiarity with ADP as an outsourcing Vendor (or other outsourcing Vendor).

Education Requirements:
Bachelors Degree in Accounting with specialization in Taxation
