The Field Technician will be part of the team that is implementing on-the-ground watershed restoration efforts for the KWP. The key responsibilities of the Technician include, but are not limited to, data collection and monitoring relating to stream resources, fire fuel loads, vegetation, restoration plantings, and efficacy of control measures for invasive plants and feral animals. This requires an individual who is detailed, able to work with calibrated instruments, learns quickly, enjoys working daily in outdoor Hawaiʻi, able to organize and manipulate data in databases and spreadsheets, can work cooperatively with a variety of people, and can communicate clearly both orally and in writing. The Technician will need to be flexible and adaptable, in order to assist the field crew in restoration activities as needed. Training and/or experience with GPS/GIS is preferred. This position requires a committed effort, along with a high level of organization and motivation.

The Field Technician will report to the KWP Field Operations Leader and the KWP Coordinator. The Coordinator will provide project goals and delegate responsibilities. The Field Operations Leader will organize materials, crew, and time to meet project goals.

Requirements:

Experience in scientific data collection, organization of data, and data analysis.
Knowledge of Hawaiian ecology, plants, forests, streams and birds.
Training and/or experience with GPS and GIS technologies.
Eagerness and ability to learn new skills, new technology, and new information.
Able to think independently, attend to details, plan ahead, and organize.
Adaptable, dependable, honest, quick learner and hard-working.
Able to maintain a good attitude while working in bad weather under difficult conditions.

Pay Scale: Field technicians will be paid $15.50 hourly, with full benefits.

Work Schedule: Full-time (40 hrs/wk.) for 11 months (January 2010 - November 2010)
