Aloha,
Our daughter Makanalani Oke Akua Konanui, 12 yrs old, has been recently
diagnosed with, Acute Myclogenous Leukemia (AML) on August 12, 2009.
She was medivac from the Big Island of Hawaii. This is an aggressive cancer,
and the treatment requires intensive chemotherapy, that will last approximately
eight months. Due to the nature of the treatment, our daughter Makanalani
Oke Akua will spend 3 weeks of each month hospitalized at Kapiolani
Women and Children's Hospital in Honolulu. Makanalani Oke Akua is currently
under the care of the Pediatric Oncology Team at Kapiolani Medical Center for
Women and Children in Honolulu. This has been a real shock to our family,
emotionally and financially. She currently have four sister and one brother
back on the Big Island of Hawaii, who miss her dearly and don't understand
what's going on. Makanalani Oke Akua's father Fred, fly's back and forth from
Oahu to Hilo to take care of the family home and to comfort the other sibling's
who are currently staying with there grandparents in Hilo. While Makanalani
Oke Akua's mother Cheryl, stay's with her at Kapiolani Hospital to comfort
her. We are asking anyone to please help us in this hard time. We are excepting
donations to help the family go through this emotional time. And also, to help
in anyway so Makanalani Oke Akua's siblings and immediate family can fly to
Oahu to be with Makanalani Oke Akua in this time when family needs to be
together. We are also trying to find a good location apartment in the area of the
Kapiolani Hospital, so when family comes over they have a place to stay and
for when makana has a chance to come out of the hospital for that short of time
she has a place to call home.
