Unless your car has overheated so bad that it might not start, or you have a bad oil leak and forgot to put oil in it and all your hearing are knocking noises.
You shouldn't be paying 500-1000$ or more, for simple repairs do to simple no starts, performance, cooling, brakes etc.

Speaking of brakes. I'm hearing a lot of consumers telling me these days of costly estimates from big chain shops claiming that complete rotor replacement or sets are needed.
The only time rotors are needing replacement is if they are damaged. "metal to metal"
Nobody turns them anymore because replacement is cheaper than the risk of liability.
Rarely can they ever warp unless heating was so extreme

Telling some about little noises you'll find important to tell them in the beginning. Or ideas a parts clerk or friend tells you.
Some will find opportunity in that. Its probably better to let them check it out and tell you what they think first.
Your performance complaints should be enough for any good mechanic.

Is your "check engine light on"? It probably ISN'T and SHOULDN'T be your transmission.(All-TRANS deceptive advertising in TV commercial)

CLEARING CHECK ENGINE LIGHT probably WON'T prevent it from coming right back on.
That light stays on for a reason. DRIVE THE CAR before you pay someone for this service.

Beware of high A/C estimates too. Some of these guys are the worst ones.Because they play on your comfort level.

Mechanics can be tricky, the obvious isn't always the case. "only" a great many years of experience can make you competent enough to diagnose them "correctly" when they are tough to figure out.

Trial and error mechanics isn't a very efficient way. (Taking off good parts and replacing with good parts)

Because it will always be the last thing you replace if it works at all.
And more times than not it usually is a friend or friend of a friend who suggests "what it probably is" I hear from customers all the time.

I been a MECHANIC for over 25 years. HONESTLY I've heard many consumers stories and seen receipts showing what many shops and especially the dealers have been doing to consumers over the years ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~"THATS CLEARLY RIPPING THEM OFF"~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Unless your car has overheated so bad that it might not start, or with your bad oil leak you forgot to put oil in it, and all you hear are knocking noises.
You shouldn't be paying 500-1000$ or more, for simple repairs do to performance, cooling, brakes etc.

The noises you'll find important to mention; they may find opportunity. You need your car and they know it.

Is your "check engine light on"? It probably ISN'T and SHOULDN'T be your transmission.(All-TRANS deceptive advertising)
You will notice transmission problems before your check engine light will tell you about them most times.
And most of these problems don't produce leaks.

Primarily emission related problems,'often' activate this light. Replacing some of this stuff is very expensive.
Also except o2 sensors, normally are hardly ever the "real" problem.
The best thing is to learn a little yourself about your codes and what they really mean when having this diagnosis becomes the basis of why your vehicle needs service by mechanics.
Especially expensive ones.
These are easily put into layman's English by googling the OBD-II code on the Internet.
"You should always ask for the codes" in cases like this.
REASONS:
1) Some mechanics won't be so honest about the readings and many interpret them wrong.
2)The big differences between mechanics and their diagnosis
3)You'll find comfort not being in the dark.
4)you'll finally be putting that computer to good use."jk"

CLEARING CHECK ENGINE LIGHT probably WON'T prevent it from coming right back on.That light stays on for a reason. DRIVE THE CAR before you pay someone for this service.

Beware of high A/C estimates too. Some of these guys are the worst ones.Because they play on your comfort level.
